About The Position

The Genetic Counselor is responsible for providing genetic counseling to patients, parents and families. This role involves gathering family and medical history, providing pre and post-test genetic counseling to patients and/or families at risk of hereditary cancer disorders, discussing benefits and limitations of genetic testing options, and obtaining informed consent. The Genetic Counselor will document in patient charts, develop follow-up recommendations, document cases, and maintain appropriate records ensuring confidentiality. Additionally, this role provides education to patients and families regarding hereditary cancer disorders, personalized cancer risks, and available medical management strategies, and may develop and present educational programs. The position also involves coordinating and supporting research protocols, including recruitment, assessment of research subjects, patient advice and support, and maintenance of research records. Associated administrative or clerical tasks, including special projects and correspondence, are also part of the role. This position provides patient care/counseling to adult patients.

Requirements

• Certified Genetic Counselor (CGC), American Board of Genetic Counseling (required)
• Master's degree in Genetic Counseling or directly equivalent discipline (required) from an Accreditation Counsel for Genetic Counseling (ACGC) accredited program.
• 2 years of experience working in a same or similar position (required)

Responsibilities

• Provides education to patients and families regarding hereditary cancer disorders, personalized cancer risks, and available medical management strategies.
• Develops and presents educational and related programs as appropriate.
• Coordinates and supports the execution of research of protocol as needed, including recruitment and assessment of research subjects, provision of patient advice and support, and maintenance of research records.
• Performs associated administrative or clerical tasks, which may include special projects and correspondence.
• Provides patient care/counseling to adult patients.
