About The Position
St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, part of the Hartford HealthCare network, is seeking a Genetic Counselor for their Perinatology department. This role involves providing genetic counseling to patients, interpreting complex genetic and laboratory data, and assisting patients with the financial and psychological aspects of genetic testing. The position also includes educating the community about genetics and available services. Requirements
- Masters in Genetics/Genetic Counseling.
- CT Licensed Genetic Counselor, Certified American Board of Genetic Counseling or American Board of Medical Genetics within 6 months of hire.
- Genetic Counseling preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provides counseling and psychological support to patients and their families.
- Interprets complex genetic and laboratory data/test results.
- Communicates findings with physician.
- Assists patients with navigation of financial aspects associated with genetic testing.
- Assists with diagnosing genetic problems and develops short and long term genetic counseling plans.
- Completes a full risk assessment to determine eligibility for genetic counseling.
- Determine and coordinates surveillance and/or treatment plans based on patient history, diagnostic data and genetic testing results.
- Assesses patients psychological or emotional needs and make referral recommendations to assist patients in managing testing outcomes.
- Educates the community about genetics and services available.
- Other Duties as assigned
