About The Position

The Genetic Counselor Assistant supports patient care in the Department of Medical Genetics. The role provides brief conversations about the benefits and clinical utility of genetic testing and its potential family impacts, and supports patients in making informed decisions about testing and health management options. The assistant gathers personal and family history, schedules patient visits, and coordinates daily care and administrative follow-through.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to be flexible in meeting the demands of patients and physicians.
Ability to multitask and problem-solve.

Nice To Haves

At least one year of work experience in a genetic counseling setting.
Experience with Epic or another electronic medical record (EMR) system.

Responsibilities

Provide brief conversations about the benefits and clinical utility of genetic testing and its possible impacts on families.
Assist patients scheduled in the GCC schedule with deciding whether to schedule an appointment or obtain testing.
Document personal and family history and gather information needed to determine the reason for a visit.
Support informed decision-making regarding genetic testing and health management options.
Schedule new and established patient visits according to patient preferences and physician availability.
Coordinate daily patient care through check-in, order input, paperwork organization, and end-of-day follow-up for no-shows and cancellations.
Perform administrative duties related to patient care and follow-through.
