About The Position

National Power is seeking a Generator Service Technician for its Dawsonville, GA market. Reporting to the Telecom Service Manager, this role is responsible for the maintenance and repair of generator sets and other electrical equipment. Key duties include performing various types and levels of maintenance and repair on generators and parallel systems (5-5000kw), troubleshooting and repairing Automatic Transfer Switches (including bypass isolation and closed transition types), conducting preventative maintenance, troubleshooting AC and DC circuits, replacing components, performing warranty work, and commissioning new generator systems. The technician will also troubleshoot and repair diesel or gaseous engines, perform load bank testing, and assist other technicians. This is a remote position requiring the employee to work from home, manage customer interactions, provide reports, account for time, and maintain company property and inventory.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma required
  • Excellent communication skills to give verbal/written reports of job status, repair recommendations, and equipment/supplies needed.
  • Ability to account for time spent on jobs and travel.
  • Excellent driving record and a valid driver’s license.
  • Good computer skills and comfortable with Microsoft software to include Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, and Adobe (PDF’s).
  • Good problem-solving skills during emergency situations or situations with limited resources.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in an electrical/mechanical related field preferred.
  • Current Generac Power Systems certification preferred.
  • US Air Force Electrical Power Production Specialist, US Navy Electrician’s Mate, or Generator and/or UPS field service technician preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various types and levels of maintenance and repair on generators and parallel systems ranging from 5-5000kw.
  • Troubleshoot and repair Automatic Transfer Switches, to include bypass isolation, and closed transition types.
  • Perform preventative maintenance service (oil and filters).
  • Troubleshoot AC and DC circuits.
  • Remove and replace any and all components as necessary.
  • Perform warranty work per manufacturer’s guidelines.
  • Perform start-up/commissioning on new generators and generator systems.
  • Perform diesel or gaseous engine troubleshooting and repair to include but not limited to ignition components, injection systems, valve adjustments etc.
  • Perform load bank testing on generator(s) to ensure units are in the proper operating conditions and meet applicable code requirements.
  • Assist other technicians with large multi-person jobs or troubleshooting complicated issues.
  • Account for time spent on jobs and travel.
  • Ensure proper vehicle maintenance is performed.
  • Maintain required parts inventory.
  • Ensure security of Company property to include cell phone, laptop computer, specialty tools and any other item assigned.
  • Manage difficult or emotional customer situations.
  • Respond promptly to customer needs.
  • Solicit customer feedback to improve service.
  • Respond to requests for service and assistance.
  • Meet commitments.
  • Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Look for ways to improve and promote quality.
  • Apply feedback to improve performance.
  • Monitor own work to ensure quality and safety.
