About The Position

National Power is seeking a Generator Service Technician in Ball Ground, GA. This role, reporting to the Telecom Service Manager, is responsible for the maintenance and repair of generator sets and other electrical equipment. The technician will perform various levels of maintenance and repair on generators and parallel systems (5-5000kw), troubleshoot and repair Automatic Transfer Switches, perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot AC and DC circuits, replace components, perform warranty work, and conduct start-up/commissioning on new systems. The role also involves diesel or gaseous engine troubleshooting and repair, including ignition components, injection systems, and valve adjustments. Load bank testing on generators is required to ensure proper operating conditions and code compliance. The technician will also assist other technicians on larger jobs or complex troubleshooting. This is a remote position, requiring the employee to work from home and manage company property and vehicle maintenance. Travel, including overnight stays, is required, with company coverage for hotels and meal allowance. Training will be provided, potentially including courses in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Requirements

HS Diploma required
Excellent communication skills
Ability to give verbal/written reports of job status, repair recommendations, equipment/supplies needed
Ability to account for time spent on jobs and travel
Excellent driving record
Valid driver’s license
Ability to drive long distances to job sites
Ability to stay overnight in hotels 1-3 nights (but not limited to) a week may also be required
Good computer skills
Comfortable with Microsoft software to include Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, and Adobe (PDF’s)
Ability to work from home
Ability to ensure proper vehicle maintenance is performed
Ability to maintain required parts inventory
Ability to ensure security of Company property to include cell phone, laptop computer, specialty tools and any other item assigned
Good problem-solving during emergency situations or situations with limited resources
Ability to pass a criminal background check
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen
Ability to pass a Department of Transportation physical examination

Nice To Haves

Associate degree in an electrical/mechanical related field
Current Generac Power Systems certification
US Air Force Electrical Power Production Specialist, US Navy Electrician’s Mate, or Generator and/or UPS field service technician

Responsibilities

Perform various types and levels of maintenance and repair on generators and parallel systems ranging from 5-5000kw
Troubleshoot and repair Automatic Transfer Switches, to include bypass isolation, and closed transition types as well
Perform preventative maintenance service (oil and filters)
Troubleshoot AC and DC circuits
Remove and replace any and all components as necessary
Perform warranty work per manufacturer’s guidelines
Perform start-up/commissioning on new generators and generator systems
Perform diesel or gaseous engine troubleshooting and repair to include but not limited to ignition components, injection systems, valve adjustments etc.
Perform load bank testing on generator(s) to ensure units are in the proper operating conditions and meet applicable code requirements
Assist other technicians with large multi-person jobs or troubleshooting complicated issues
Give verbal/written reports of job status, repair recommendations, equipment/supplies needed
Account for time spent on jobs and travel
Ensure proper vehicle maintenance is performed
Maintain required parts inventory
Ensure security of Company property to include cell phone, laptop computer, specialty tools and any other item assigned
