About The Position

The Generator Technician is responsible for installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of standby and prime power generator systems and associated electrical equipment in a mission-critical industrial or government support environment. This includes diesel and gas-driven generator sets, automatic transfer switches (ATS), switchgear, control systems, and related power distribution equipment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years experience working on commercial/industrial generator systems.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience specifically with MTU generators.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with switchgear and ATS systems.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical diagnostic skills, including multimeter and power testing equipment proficiency.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain access to a U.S. Army installation (base access) in accordance with applicable government/customer requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications preferred: EGSA, OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, MTU/GENSET OEM certifications, electrical trades licenses.
  • Experience on military installations or in industrial, mission-critical, or secure government facility environments.
  • Secret clearance preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of generator systems, including MTU generators and related electrical equipment.
  • Maintain, test, troubleshoot, and repair automatic transfer switches (ATS), switchgear, control panels, battery systems, and power distribution equipment.
  • Conduct load-bank testing, commissioning, and system start-ups to validate generator and ATS performance.
  • Review electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and OEM documentation to diagnose problems and make repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, including NFPA, OSHA, and local electrical codes.
  • Respond to after-hours emergency calls on a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Maintain accurate service records, parts inventory, and work orders.
  • Communicate effectively with operations management, facility staff, and external vendors as required.
