About The Position

Operations Service Team (OST) Technicians are Amazon’s front line responders for hands-on electrical and mechanical operations and troubleshooting. They maintain, operate, troubleshoot, and repair Data Center Operation’s Mission Critical Facilities, which includes stand-by diesel generators and related fuel systems, 3 phase electrical systems that include but not limited to switchgear, UPSs, PDUs, wet cell batteries and associated systems, CRAC, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers/water chemical system, air handlers and associated systems, pumps, & motors. OST is looking for a generator services technician, preferably one with experience performing routine maintenance on emergency diesel generators. The technician will be expected to coordinate and perform twelve month and below maintenance on Carter generators of different models. They will also be expected to coordinate with and monitor vendors performing more infrequent maintenance. The technician should be capable of troubleshooting minor generator issues and coordinating with site personnel for vendor support for more complex issues. This position requires that the candidate selected be a US Citizen and must currently possess an active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility. The position further requires that, after start, the selected candidate obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph and satisfy other security related requirements.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience
  • Can bend or twist the body into unusual positions while working
  • Can use hands to manipulate small wires and objects
  • Can walk on job sites in uneven terrain
  • Can work at heights and from ladders
  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret with SCI eligibility or above

Nice To Haves

  • 4+ years of data center engineering experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Knowledge of network design and layout as well as low voltage (copper/ fiber) cabling
  • Experience in data center engineering
  • Can perform physical tasks all day without becoming overly tired

Responsibilities

  • Track schedules for and completion of all generator maintenance across several different locations.
  • Coordinate and perform twelve month and below generator maintenance assisted by other members of the Operations Service Team
  • Operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, generator, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center
  • Troubleshoot facility equipment
  • Perform limited maintenance tasks to including filter changes, HVAC PMs, rack power installs, rack PDU, and rack ATS replacements
  • Provide support to Data Center Operations technicians
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures
  • Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work
  • Write procedures
  • Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds/log to include but not limited to temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.
  • Utilize internal CMMS to manage building workflows and spare part inventory
  • Supervise contractors who perform servicing or preventive maintenance
  • Fully comply with all physical security procedures and policies
  • Drive innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities
  • Manipulate small wires and objects
