About The Position

Fidelity Power Systems is seeking a seasoned Generator Load Bank Testing Operator to join their growing team in Henrico, VA. This role is for a self-motivated and adaptable individual with a knack for world-class customer service and operational excellence. The Generator Load Bank Testing Operator reports to the Area Service Manager - Southern Virginia Region and is a specialized technician responsible for setting up, testing, and monitoring electrical backup power systems using load testing equipment. They ensure that emergency generators can handle full electrical capacity during power outages. The operator will be responsible for safely operating a 2-megawatt truck mounted load bank.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience working with industrial generators and low/medium-voltage electrical equipment and Automatic Transfer Switches.
  • Proficiency in reading electrical schematics.
  • Proficiency in using digital multimeters.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel frequently to client sites throughout Central and Tide Water Virginia areas.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from a technical school or military power-generation program is highly preferred.
  • Previous load bank testing experience preferred.
  • Rehlko/Kohler, John Deere, Cummins, Mitsubishi, Volvo and/or Caterpillar engine training is preferred.
  • Any generator manufacturer training certifications, Electrician licensing, or EGSA (Electrical Generating Systems Association) technician certification is a major plus.
  • Operating heavy machinery or service trucks.

Responsibilities

  • Transport, position, and connect resistive load bank and cables to diesel or gaseous generators.
  • Run diagnostic tests to measure voltage, amperage, frequency, and oil pressure under varying electrical loads.
  • Record exact performance metrics at scheduled intervals during continuous testing cycles and generating reports for customer records.
  • Identify anomalies such as wet stacking, overheating, or voltage drops, and perform basic mechanical or electrical troubleshooting.
  • Adhere to NFPA 110 standards, OSHA guidelines, and lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) safety protocols.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on standby generator systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair gas and diesel engines.
  • Troubleshoot electrical circuit boards.
  • Troubleshoot complete electrical systems.
  • Work with customers on a one-on-one basis.
  • Complete and submit work orders and reports.
  • Prepare accurate quotes for repairs.
  • Maintain truck inventory.
