About The Position

Sonoco's City of Industry paper mill has an opening for a General Worker. This is a rotating shift position and is responsible to the Production Supervisor, Shift Supervisor, or Machine Tender. The role involves the safe and efficient unloading and storing of incoming recovered scrap material, the maintenance of related equipment, and general housekeeping of the beater room and yard area. Requirements

• Ability to manually push, pull, and lift some equipment and materials as needed.
• Excellent work history in safety and attendance.
• Ability to work a shift rotation (28 day cycle/1 weekend off per month), holidays, weekends, and overtime.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to obtain a fork truck license.

Nice To Haves

• Experience operating a fork truck with a clamp attachment.
• Experience operating a Caterpillar T-12 tractor with a clamp attachment.
• Experience operating a Hyster 8000 Clamp Truck.
• Experience operating a Toyota 4500 Fork Truck.

Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently unload and store incoming recovered scrap material.
• Maintain equipment related to material handling.
• Perform general housekeeping of the beater room and yard area.
• Unload baled recovered fiber using a fork truck with a clamp attachment.
• Learn to recognize different kinds of corrugated furnish (wastepaper) used in paper production.
• Move and store loose recovered fiber using a Caterpillar T-12 tractor with a clamp attachment.
• Keep the storage area and aisles clean and orderly.
• Load fiber onto the hydrapulper conveyor.
• Haul bales from storage and place them in temporary storage areas for consumption on the second and third shifts.
• Safely and efficiently operate a Hyster 8000 Clamp Truck to load the pulper conveyor with baled furnish and to unload baled furnish from flat-bed trailers and put them in storage according to type and grade.
• Safely and efficiently operate a Toyota 4500 Fork Truck for hauling bins, equipment, scrap rolls, etc.
• Follow Sonoco's best safety practices and report any damage or unsafe conditions immediately.
• Perform other assigned duties.
