About The Position

Sonoco, a global leader in packaging solutions with operations in over 34 countries, is seeking a General Worker for its paper mill in the City of Industry. This role is responsible for the safe and efficient unloading and storing of incoming recovered scrap material, maintenance of related equipment, and general housekeeping of the beater room and yard area. The position involves operating various types of machinery and requires attention to detail, a strong safety record, and the ability to work a rotating shift schedule.

Requirements

• Ability to learn and recognize different kinds of corrugated furnish (wastepaper) used in formula mixes for varied grades of paper.
• Ability to manually push, pull, and lift some equipment and materials as needed.
• Excellent work history in the areas of safety and attendance.
• Ability to work a shift rotation (28 day cycle/ 1 weekend off per month), holidays, weekends and overtime.
• Attention to detail.
• Must be able to obtain a fork truck license.

Nice To Haves

• Experience operating a fork truck with a clamp attachment.
• Experience operating a Caterpillar T-12 tractor with a clamp attachment.
• Experience operating a Hyster 8000 Clamp Truck.
• Experience operating a Toyota 4500 Fork Truck.

Responsibilities

• Safe and efficient unloading and storing of incoming recovered scrap material.
• Maintenance of related equipment and general housekeeping of the beater room and yard area.
• Safe and efficient unloading and storing of incoming recovered fiber.
• Unloading baled recovered fiber using a fork truck with a clamp attachment.
• Moving and storing loose recovered fiber using a Caterpillar T-12 tractor with a clamp attachment.
• Keeping the storage area and aisles clean and orderly.
• Loading fiber onto the hydrapulper conveyor.
• Hauling bales from storage and placing them in temporary storage areas for consumption on the second and third shifts.
• Safe and efficient operation of a Hyster 8000 Clamp Truck to load the pulper conveyor with baled furnish and to unload baled furnish from flat-bed trailers and put them in storage according to type and grade.
• Safe and efficient operation of a Toyota 4500 Fork Truck for use in hauling bins, equipment, scrap rolls, etc. from one area of the mill to another.
• Following Sonoco's best safety practices and reporting any damage or unsafe conditions immediately.
• Other assigned duties.
