About The Position

The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) is an Executive Agency of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) established in 2007 to protect individuals in England and Wales who may lack the mental capacity to make decisions about their health and finances. The OPG is responsible for registering lasting powers of attorney (LPA) and enduring powers of attorney (EPA), and for supervising deputies appointed by the Court of Protection. The OPG is undergoing an ambitious transformation program to enhance its services and better support adults at risk. The Supervision and Investigation Services (SIS) team within the Operations Directorate supports the Public Guardian's statutory functions, including supervising deputies and guardians and investigating concerns. Visitors are crucial to this work, conducting visits to clients, deputies, donors, attorneys, and other relevant parties to gather information, assess situations, and provide evidence-based reports with findings and recommendations. As a Permanent General Visitor, you will handle urgent, complex, high-priority, and assurance work, often with short notice, and contribute to mentoring, knowledge sharing, and service improvement to ensure quality and consistency across the visitor service.
