About The Position

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the General Technician is responsible for assisting in the safe completion of day-to-day activities at the Fort Saskatchewan Air Separation Plant. This is a skilled entry level position with training and development opportunities for advancement.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent experience
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with clean abstract.
  • Ability to learn and safely operate: forklifts, telehandlers, aerial work platforms, overhead cranes and lifting devices.
  • Must be able to understand and follow company policies and complete work activities utilizing safe work practices.
  • Ability to receive and understand verbal directions and instruction.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with industry standard computer software (MS Word, Excel, Outlook and TEAMs).
  • Good understanding of the English language including verbal, written, and reading skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to learn new tools, equipment and software.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work at heights, in cold weather and within confined spaces when required.
  • Ability to work variable hours including overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements including lifting 20-50 lbs.; bending, crouching, kneeling, and standing for extended periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • ABSA 4th Class Power Engineer is an asset but not required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and a desire to understand how things work. General mechanical background and small tool usage experience is an asset.
  • Ability to read and follow equipment drawings (P&IDs and SWDs) is an asset.
  • Preference to candidates that currently live within 40km of the plant site.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe work practices are followed and maintained with a specific focus on the railcar and trailer loading areas.
  • Responsible for the accurate completion of product loading data entry and paperwork.
  • Assist with general maintenance activities alongside mechanical, instrument/electrical and operations technicians as required.
  • Labour tasks include: housekeeping, cleaning, painting, snow shoveling, garbage removal and yard maintenance.
  • General plant inspections and corrective maintenance.
