About The Position

Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. (SA-TECH) is seeking a General Technician II to join their team at NAS Patuxent River, MD. This full-time, non-exempt position will support the Aircraft Instrumentation Division (AID) of the Prototyping, Experimentation, and Instrumentation (PIE) Department. The role involves repairing, fabricating, modifying, and installing sheet metal parts, items, and assemblies for aircraft instrumentation systems. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical aptitude, knowledge of sheet metal properties and trade tools, and shop mathematics. The position requires the ability to work independently on recurring tasks and to select or adapt standard procedures or equipment, with work reviewed for technical adequacy. Responsibilities include collaborating with engineers and customers on system design and installation, performing fabrication and repair of components (including minor composite work, sheet metal, and machining), submitting items for QA inspection, and packaging items for delivery or aircraft installation. Other tasks may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in performing the stated functions.
  • Knowledge of the physical properties and working characteristics of sheet metal.
  • Skills and experience with airframe repairs using sheet metal and composite materials (must-have).
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment required in the sheet metal/machinist trade.
  • Knowledge of shop mathematics and principles (bend deduction, bend allowance).
  • Basic computer skills focusing on MS Office.
  • Ability to work well with people.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds solo.
  • Current Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Must be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to start date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
  • All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.

Nice To Haves

  • Skills and experience with structural modification of aircraft in an Intermediate or Depot level facility (nice-to-have).

Responsibilities

  • Work with engineers and customers to design/develop/install aircraft instrumentation systems.
  • Fabricate, repair, and install aircraft instrumentation components and assemblies, to include minor composite work, sheet metal, machining.
  • Provide items to QA for inspection.
  • Package items to be delivered or support installation of instrumentation package on aircraft.
  • Other tasks may be assigned to you as needed.
