This position is for an Outpatient General Surgery / Surgical First Assist role, located at Canton-Potsdam Hospital and General Surgery Practice in Potsdam, NY. The role involves 2 clinical days per week in the Hospital’s General Surgery Practice and 2 clinical days per week in the Hospital’s Operating Room. The provider will cover approximately 47 calls per year, with call hours from 5p through 7a. The team structure involves collaboration with St. Lawrence Region Physicians and providers as well as other Physicians and providers within the RRH system. EMR used is Epic.

Requirements

  • BS: Physician Assistant (Required)
  • PA-C - Certified Physician Assistant - National Committee on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • RPA - Registered Physician Assistant - NYS Office of Professions
  • Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20–50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning.
  • Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments.
  • High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns.
  • Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus.
  • Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation.
  • TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements.
