Requirements

Master’s degree in nursing OR master’s degree in physician assistant studies
State of Michigan Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant license required.

Assisting in multiple surgical specialties, including: Urology Gynecology Gynecologic Oncology Vascular Surgery Otolaryngology (ENT) General Surgery
Occasional assist in: Orthopedics Neurosurgery Plastic Surgery

Responsibilities

Serve as the primary surgical first assist for scheduled and add-on procedures.
Collaborate with OR Coordinators to ensure appropriate case carts, supplies, instrumentation, and equipment are available for each procedure.
Support circulating RNs and surgical technologists by assisting with surgical setup, equipment needs, and workflow optimization to enhance OR efficiency.
Manage preoperative and postoperative order entry and follow-up as appropriate.
Position and prepare patients safely and appropriately for surgical procedures.
Assist with fluoroscopy (X-ray guided) procedures and maintain familiarity with radiation safety practices.
Provide support during robotic-assisted surgical procedures.
Perform comprehensive patient assessments in the ambulatory setting, including history and physical examinations, surgery consultation, routine office follow up care, and post-operative care.
Order diagnostic tests, such as echocardiograms, stress tests (exercise or pharmacologic), x-rays, ECG’s, laboratory tests, and interpret test results.
Prescribe pharmacologic and other therapeutic treatment for the benefit of patient health.
Perform therapeutic procedures, as needed, including post-procedure wound care.
