About The Position

Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC), a federally operated Indian Health Service hospital serving the Navajo Nation, is seeking a Board Eligible or Board Certified General Surgeon for overnight and weekend locum coverage under a federal non-personal services contract. This is a unique opportunity to provide critical surgical care in a mission-driven environment while earning premium locum rates and serving one of the most culturally significant regions in the United States.

Requirements

  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in General Surgery through the American Board of Surgery
  • Current unrestricted medical license from any U.S. state, territory, or Washington, DC
  • Current DEA registration or ability to obtain required federal credentials
  • Current BLS certification
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Ability to obtain and maintain NNMC medical staff privileges
  • Successful completion of Level I and Level II background investigations
  • Valid driver's license if required for position duties
  • Fitness for duty certification from a licensed physician
  • MMR immunity documentation
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination
  • Varicella immunity documentation or positive titer
  • Tdap vaccination within the last 5 years
  • TB/PPD test within the previous 12 months
  • Current influenza vaccination

Responsibilities

  • Provide overnight and weekend General Surgery call coverage
  • Cross-cover the inpatient General Surgery service
  • Admit new surgical patients
  • Respond to Emergency Department, clinic, and inpatient consultations
  • Perform emergency general surgery procedures as required
  • Perform upper and lower endoscopies when clinically indicated
  • Provide emergency surgical assistance to OB/GYN and other services as needed
  • Complete all medical documentation before the end of each shift
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership and participate in quality assurance activities
