About The Position

Salem Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to support its Trauma and Acute Care Surgery program. Salem Health is a Level II trauma center with approximately 2,000 trauma activations annually. Its surgical team performs more than 14,200 surgeries each year, nearly 80% of which are emergency or trauma cases and 20% elective. The practice includes 15 surgeons and seven advanced practice providers providing inpatient, outpatient, and operating room services. The team treats a high volume of diverse and complex cases and values teaching and collegiality. There are no residents in house, creating opportunities for APPs to take on higher-acuity and more complex cases while working independently with support from colleagues. Full-time APPs are contracted for 184 ten-hour shifts annually. Shifts vary among inpatient rounding, discharges and consults, clinic work, and assisting in the operating room. The average inpatient census of 40 patients is covered by three surgeons and two APPs. The position is based at Salem Health Specialty Surgery Clinic on the Salem, Oregon campus. The clinic serves patients throughout the Mid Willamette Valley and provides a collaborative, patient-centered setting for specialty surgical care. APPs work with surgeons, nurses, medical assistants, and other healthcare professionals to provide clinical care and continuity throughout patients’ surgical journeys. Care is primarily provided in the specialty surgery clinic, with possible support in procedural areas, hospitals, or other ambulatory settings as needed. The schedule is 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., four ten-hour shifts, Monday through Friday. The role is full-time, 40 hours per week, and exempt.
