The Department of Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine - Jacksonville is seeking a Medical Director for UF Health Jacksonville’s Comprehensive Hernia Center and Abdominal Wall Program at the non-tenure accruing level of Clinical Assistant, Associate, or Professor. The Department of Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville is a tertiary referral center that serves the population of Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. It is home to the divisions of Gastrointestinal Surgery/Surgical Oncology, Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, and Trauma/Acute Care/Critical Care. The Department of Surgery is poised for significant growth as we expand the elective surgical practice throughout the Northeast region. The Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery/Surgical Oncology currently has eleven faculty members with subspecialties of breast surgery, colon and rectal surgery, hepatopancreaticobiliary, surgical oncology and minimally invasive surgery. We are seeking a candidate with advanced training in hernias and abdominal wall reconstruction. The candidate must be MD or DO, Board Certified/Eligible in General Surgery with experience in all aspects of the evaluation and treatment including minimally invasive approaches of robotic and laparoscopic surgery. Major responsibilities include building a comprehensive hernia center and elective general surgery practice as well as providing education of medical students, and residents. Candidate will join a diverse academic general surgery practice inclusive of growing an advanced GI/MIS, robotic, and oncology program. Salary and academic appointment is negotiable and the benefits are excellent. No trauma calls required. This position will report to the Chief of Gastrointestinal Surgery and Surgical Oncology and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine - Jacksonville. Every faculty member in the department will have a mentoring team assigned to them and participate in the department wide faculty development program. The following is a general description of duties and responsibilities: Provide and maintain a high level of quality of patient care services in all aspects of General Surgery and Minimally Invasive Surgery Provide clinical teaching of trainees in General Surgery and actively participate in the educational program. Be responsible for excellent communication with primary care physicians, consulting services, and other referring providers. Assist in marketing the General Surgery Programs to community physicians and managed care organizations. Participate in monthly division and department meetings, administrative functions and institutional committees as requested.
