About The Position

Bassett Healthcare Network, in central New York, is seeking a BC/BE General Surgeon with a focus on breast surgery to join their staff. This position is part of an established group of 15 Surgeons and 6 Advanced Practice Clinicians within a Certified Cancer Treatment Center based in Cooperstown. The role involves patient care across multiple regional centers for diagnostic and treatment options, utilizing a 180 Bed Primary Hospital with a Level III Trauma Center. The position offers an instant referral base from over 500 Network Clinicians and full support staff, including PAs, with opportunities for interaction with Surgical Residents and Medical Students. Travel is required for regional patient care. The facility boasts state-of-the-art ORs, including a DaVinci Surgical System. There is no General Surgery/Trauma call requirement, as General Surgeons share call coverage for Breast Surgery patients. The practice operates within Bassett Healthcare Network, an integrated system serving an 8-county region and a major teaching affiliate of Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. Visa sponsorship is available for J-1 and H-1B candidates.

Requirements

  • MD, DO or MBBS
  • BC/BE in General Surgery – Breast Fellowship Required
  • Completion of an accredited USA General Surgery residency, successful completion of which results in board eligibility
  • New York medical license (or eligibility to obtain)
  • BLS certification required
  • DEA Required
  • Strong teamwork, patient-centered approach, and ability to thrive in a multidisciplinary academic setting

Responsibilities

  • Perform breast surgeries.
  • Provide patient care across multiple regional centers for diagnostic and treatment options.
  • Share call coverage for Breast Surgery patients.
  • Interact with Surgical Residents and Medical Students.
  • Travel for regional patient care.
