About The Position

ZAP Engineering & Construction Services, Inc. is seeking a General Superintendent to lead the field execution of mechanical construction on oil & gas projects. This senior field leadership role is responsible for safety, productivity, quality, and schedule at the work face, directing craft superintendents, foremen, field administration, and the QA/QC team. The scope includes underground piping installation, equipment setting, structural steel erection, above-ground piping installation, pressure testing, and reinstatement of piping systems. The General Superintendent will work closely with the on-site Construction Manager, Project Manager, engineering, and client representatives.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of mechanical/industrial construction experience, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and education, with progressive field leadership responsibility.
  • Proven experience running mechanical scope on oil & gas or heavy industrial projects: underground and above-ground piping, equipment setting, structural steel, welding/fit-up, and pressure testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and develop craft superintendents, foremen, field administration, and QA/QC personnel.
  • Strong working knowledge of crane and rigging operations and critical lift planning.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, isometrics, P&IDs, and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of RFI processes, field verification, punch lists, and turnover documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and field/project management software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to independently make decisions and direct work.
  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Associate's, Bachelor's, trade, or technical school education.
  • HSE certification (e.g., OSHA 30-Hour Construction).
  • Current crane/rigging or lift-director qualifications.
  • Experience with welding QA/QC programs, ASME/B31.3 piping, and hydrostatic/pneumatic test procedures.
  • Experience coordinating directly with clients and engineering on a fast-paced, multi-craft site.

Responsibilities

  • Set the safety standard for the field, prioritizing safety in all plans and holding crews and subcontractors accountable to HSE requirements.
  • Establish daily job site objectives and ensure crews are equipped, staffed, and sequenced to meet project deadlines.
  • Proactively identify and correct unsafe conditions and lead a zero-incident safety culture.
  • Coordinate crane lifts and critical operations, confirming lift plans, rigging, and exclusion zones.
  • Direct the installation of underground piping, managing trenching, bedding, fit-up, welding, tie-ins, and backfill.
  • Manage the setting of equipment with cranes and subsequent equipment dress-out, including alignment, grouting, and accessory installation.
  • Oversee the erection of structural steel pipe racks and platforms, ensuring proper sequence, bolt-up, and grade/elevation control.
  • Drive above-ground piping installation, maintaining productivity, weld quality, and material control.
  • Manage pressure testing of piping systems, including test package readiness, safe execution, documentation, and sign-off.
  • Oversee and direct all mechanical craft labor on site, setting daily expectations for safety, productivity, and quality.
  • Supervise and develop craft superintendents, foremen, field administration, and QA/QC team.
  • Plan and balance manpower, equipment, tools, and consumables to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
  • Forecast field needs and coordinate material availability to keep crews working.
  • Manage subcontractors and specialty crews on site, confirming scope, performance, and adherence to schedule and quality standards.
  • Execute to the project schedule, build and drive short-interval (look-ahead) plans, and develop recovery plans.
  • Conduct daily coordination with the Construction Manager and Project Manager to report progress, plan, and align resources.
  • Maintain accurate field reporting, including daily reports, progress tracking, manpower, and quantities installed.
  • Verify completion of punch lists and ensure project schedules and turnover documentation are updated.
  • Partner with the QA/QC team to ensure work is installed to drawings, specifications, codes, and client standards.
  • Manage field verification, Requests for Information (RFIs), and resolution of design discrepancies and constructability issues.
  • Provide timely updates and clear communication to clients, contractors, and ZAP leadership.
  • Lead site walkdowns and inspections, following up on progress and open items.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.
