About The Position

The General Superintendent provides overall field leadership and oversight for large-scale commercial and educational construction projects, including K-12 schools, higher education facilities, and institutional buildings. This role is responsible for coordinating multiple project teams, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance, and delivering projects on time and within budget. The ideal candidate has extensive experience managing ground-up and renovation projects in commercial and school environments, with a strong emphasis on safety, scheduling, and stakeholder coordination in occupied or active campus settings, including projects located on or near tribal lands.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred)
  • 10+ years of construction experience, with at least 5 years in a senior superintendent or leadership role
  • Demonstrated experience in commercial and educational (school) construction projects required
  • Experience with both ground-up construction and renovations, especially in occupied environment
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, scheduling, and sequencing
  • Expertise in school construction logistics, phased work, and safety requirements
  • Working knowledge of jurisdictional differences, including projects on tribal lands or sovereign territories
  • Proficiency with construction scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project)
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and teams simultaneously
  • OSHA 30 hour certification (Preferred)
  • LEED accreditation (for sustainable school/commercial projects) (Preferred)
  • First Aid/CPR certification (Preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee multiple construction sites or large, complex projects simultaneously, ensuring consistent execution across all field operations
  • Lead and mentor project superintendents, assistant superintendents, and field staff
  • Coordinate daily site activities, subcontractors, and trades to maintain project schedules
  • Ensure all work aligns with project plans, specifications, and client expectations
  • Manage construction of commercial buildings and educational facilities (K 12 schools, colleges, universities)
  • Coordinate construction activities in occupied campuses, ensuring minimal disruption to staff, students, and operations
  • Plan and execute phased construction, summer fast-track schedules, and renovation projects in active environments
  • Ensure compliance with school district requirements, public sector regulations, and inspection standards
  • Enforce strict adherence to safety programs, OSHA standards, and company policies
  • Lead safety meetings and site audits; promote a culture of safety across all projects
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, federal, and jurisdictional building codes and regulations
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor master project schedules (including multi-phase school schedules)
  • Coordinate with project managers to ensure resources, materials, and manpower are aligned with timelines
  • Proactively identify and resolve schedule conflicts or delays
  • Establish and enforce quality standards for all field work
  • Conduct inspections to ensure workmanship meets design specifications and industry standards
  • Oversee punch list completion and final closeout processes
  • Interface with owners, architects, engineers, school administrators, tribal representatives (when applicable), and public officials
  • Participating in OAC (Owner-Architect-Contractor) meetings and progress updates
  • Maintain strong relationships with school districts, municipalities, tribal entities, and commercial clients
  • Collaborate with project management teams to monitor project costs and productivity
  • Review labor productivity and subcontractor performance
  • Assist in value engineering and cost-saving initiatives
  • Demonstrate professionalism and respect when working on projects located within or adjacent to tribal lands, including the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida
  • Maintain awareness that the Miccosukee Tribe has a distinct cultural heritage, governance structure, and community priorities
  • Follow all tribal regulations, permitting processes, and site access requirements when applicable
  • Coordinate respectfully with tribal leadership, representatives, and community members
  • Ensure all field personnel and subcontractors uphold professional conduct and comply with site-specific cultural, environmental, and operational expectations.
