About The Position

Shoreline Community College is seeking a Tenure-Track Faculty member to teach in the Automotive Technology program. This role involves teaching theory and lab in various automotive areas, including Electronics, Engines, Transmissions, Emissions, Electrical Systems, HVAC, and Brakes & Suspension. The faculty member will also be responsible for student advising, coordinating student recruitment, dealer placement, and graduate follow-up with local dealerships. To stay current, the faculty member will attend manufacturer-sponsored classes, participate in advisory committees, and serve as a liaison for dealerships and manufacturers. The position also requires curriculum updates, participation in college governance, and professional activities. The college emphasizes creating an equitable learning environment and supporting students from diverse backgrounds. An on-campus presence is required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Minimum of two (2) years of dealership/manufacturer work experience
  • All eight (8) Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications attained within 1 year of start date (A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8)
  • L1: Advanced Engine Performance Specialist Certification
  • G1: Maintenance and Light Repair Certification
  • Knowledge of current applicable developments, research, and trends in the field.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, learning management systems, and other appropriate instructional technology.
  • Skill in imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of automotive technology.
  • Skill in fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness.
  • Skill in adapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds/abilities.
  • Skill in developing/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independently.
  • Skill in working, communicating, and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators, and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Teach theory and lab in Automotive Electronics, Engines, Manual & Automatic Transmissions/transaxles, Engine Management & Emissions, Electrical Systems, Heating & Air Conditioning, and Brakes & Suspension.
  • Advise students in the automotive technology program.
  • Coordinate student recruitment, selection, dealer placement, and graduate follow-up with local Independent, Nissan, and Subaru automobile dealers.
  • Attend manufacturer-sponsored classes to remain current with automotive technology.
  • Coordinate and participate on automotive advisory committees.
  • Serve as liaison and resource person for College-area automobile dealers, Nissan USA, and Subaru of America.
  • Revise and update curriculum as required to meet industry standards.
  • Participate in college governance, department/division activities, and campus-related professional activities.
  • Identify and mitigate barriers to student success.
  • Create an equitable learning environment that supports success for all students.
