About The Position

The General Sales Manager (GSM) position is a second-level, senior sales management role. The GSM will have multiple District Sales Managers (DSMs) as direct reports, who in turn will have multiple Outside Sales Representatives as direct reports. Support personnel may also report directly or indirectly to the GSM or DSMs. The GSM is responsible for revenue and expense management within their assigned region, adhering to corporate guidelines. This role involves achieving financial goals, managing personnel processes (recruitment, onboarding, development, termination), and leading the development and execution of an annual strategic action plan for the region. Collaboration with the VP of Sales, other VPs, and D-E managers is crucial for communicating regional progress and needs to achieve overall company objectives. Teamwork and successful collaboration with all company functions are fundamental requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A., B.S., B.E.) from an accredited four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Good project management skills.
  • Good organization and time management skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office applications.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA preferred.
  • Experience with negotiating and fulfilling national customer contracts.
  • Experience managing a distributor network or similar channel(s) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve monthly and annual revenue and expense goals.
  • Manage corporate processes for Recruitment, On-Boarding, Assessment, Development, and Termination for the assigned region.
  • Lead the development and execution of an annual strategic action plan or business plan for the region.
  • Communicate the progress and needs of the region to the VP of Sales and other VPs.
  • Achieve overall company objectives through collaboration and teamwork.
