About The Position

The General Repair Worker performs semi-skilled jobs across various trades, including maintenance, repair, and custodial services for the building, academic programs, and other college departments. The primary goal is to ensure a clean, orderly, secure, and welcoming environment for all occupants, as well as to ensure the proper functioning of the campus. Hennepin Technical College, founded in 1972, is Minnesota's largest technical college with campuses in Brooklyn Park and Eden Prairie. It serves a diverse student population of over 9,500 across more than 45 degree and non-degree programs, boasting a 99% job placement rate. The college is part of the Minnesota State system, which encompasses 30 community and technical colleges and seven state universities, serving approximately 400,000 students.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of general methods and practices of a variety of trade areas (e.g. mechanics, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing and carpentry) sufficient to assist licensed trades workers and to repair machinery, equipment, and facilities in a timely and safe manner.
  • Knowledge of general methods and practices of custodial duties, cleaning chemicals, equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Ability to safely use hand and power hand tools.
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain trucks, tractors, and other ground and road maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, carrying and bending.
  • Communication skills needed to report status of building security and repairs to supervisor.

Nice To Haves

  • A Boiler's License
  • Ability to operate forklift.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties.
  • Adequate skills to operate the facility energy management system and preventative maintenance program.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures such as fire, tornadoes, bomb threats, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Suite
