About The Position

As a General Production team member at Smithfield Foods, you will perform essential production tasks to help deliver safe, high-quality food and support coworkers. The role involves processing meat products using hand tools, knives, machinery, and other equipment. Team members help maintain a safe and efficient production line and meet daily safety, quality, and teamwork standards. The work can be physically demanding and requires good hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, reliability, and a strong work ethic. Employees must be able to work their scheduled shift and may be required to work overtime depending on production demands. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Able to perform continuous or repetitive movement, including grasping, pinching, and flexing and extending the arms.
• Able to stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift.
• Able to work around animal blood and/or carcass parts.
• Able to work with a knife if trained.
• Able to work in cold areas of approximately 20–40 degrees and/or warm areas over 100 degrees.
• Able to work in wet and humid conditions, noisy environments, and around strong smells or odors.
• Able to wear a hard hat, hearing and eye protection, steel-toed safety shoes, and other required personal protective equipment.
• Able to work with sanitation and cleaning chemicals.
• Able to climb and move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms; bend, stoop, and twist repetitively; and walk long distances.
• May need certification to operate equipment required for the position.
• Some positions may require repetitive overhead lifting up to 30 lbs, single lifts of objects up to 60 lbs, or lifting with mechanical assistance.
