The Bureau of Health Care Practitioner Regulation is responsible for the policy making and programmatic activities related to licensure of health care practitioners and regulated facilities. The Bureau is comprised of a bureau chief and seven offices under the supervision of executive directors. The board offices credential and license designated healthcare practitioners. Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for staff management, including discipline, hiring, review and performance planning appraisals, and general supervision of staff. Responsible for ensuring that procedural and administrative duties are efficiently and timely performed by staff.
  • Performs functions delegated to the position by the board, including evaluating the applications of candidates to ensure that only qualified candidates are authorized to take licensure examinations. Authorizes and oversees the issuance of licenses, the approval of mandatory continuing education programs and providers, and audits of compliance with licensure requirements.
  • Assists the Executive Director in making recommendations to the board and the department regarding proposed statutory revisions, analysis of proposed bills, proposals for new programs or organizational structures, continuation or expansion of current programs or organizational structures, annual budget requests based on personnel and resource needs, new or revised rules, and policies and procedures for business processes.
  • Assists the Executive Director with administering and interpreting statutes, policies and procedures, and administrative rules - to the public, applicants, members of the Legislature and their staff, local, state and federal agencies, societies and associations, and members of the professions. Works with board counsels, general counsel's office, and staff, for interpretation and implementation of statutes and rules. Implements new programs and revisions to existing programs resulting from legislative changes in the Nurse Practice Act and other laws or rules affecting the board.
  • Acts as an agent for the board for the service of legal process in suits naming board members and the Executive Director as respondent. Gives testimony or depositions in administrative hearings or in court proceedings in the capacity of custodian of the board’s records.
  • Serves as liaison with professional groups, organizations, and regulatory agencies, when such representation benefits the regulatory goals of the board or department.
  • Represents the department before the board on matters of policy and procedure and advocates before the board on issues involving the goals of the department regarding the health, safety, and welfare of the public. Requires travel to attend and administer board meetings.
  • Serves as lead staff on the implementation of legislation which impacts the board.
  • Assists the Executive Director in the daily oversite of the CNA/Administrative Support Unit and Education Unit, in addition to daily oversite of the Licensure Unit.
  • Serves as the Editor of the Florida Nursing Quarterly, the Board’s newsletter.
  • This position is required to work emergency duty, in preparation for, during, and as a result of, a catastrophic or natural disaster.
  • This position is responsible for the preparation of purchasing and the approval of purchasing.
  • Serves as the supervisor for property custodian/delegate and monitors compliance of mandatory requirements in Section 273 and 274.11, Florida Statutes.
  • This position is in compliance with and monitors compliance (when applicable) of the mandatory requirements in Section 215.422, Florida Statutes, and Chapter 3A-24, Florida Administrative Code.
