About The Position

The General Custodian is responsible for creating an attractive, sanitary and safe environment for students, staff and the public. This role involves arranging furnishings and equipment for meetings, classroom activities, and events, as well as minimizing property damage, loss, and liability exposure. The custodian ensures that assignments are completed safely, properly, and in a timely manner, and may oversee and support assigned part-time custodians.

Requirements

Job related experience within specialized field with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid Driver’s License

Responsibilities

Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and special events.
Cleans assigned school facilities (e.g. classrooms, offices, restrooms, grounds, snow removal, graffiti, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.
Distributes a variety of items (e.g. supplies, mail, packages, furniture, etc.) for the purpose of distributing materials to the appropriate parties.
Inspects facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site meets district standards for safety and cleanliness, and/or identifying vandalism, equipment breakage, weather damages.
Maintains supplies and equipment (e.g. cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuum, mops, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items required to properly maintain facilities.
Performs maintenance and repairs (e.g. replace ballasts, outlets, locks, change light bulbs, replace washers, oil doors, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring safe and efficient use of facilities.
Performs summer maintenance (e.g. strips/waxes floors, moves furniture, painting, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that the site is ready for the coming school year.
Repairs furniture and equipment (e.g. sharpening mower blades, changing oil, filters, replacing cords, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.
Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns including after hours (e.g. facility damage, injured and ill students, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues and maintaining a functioning educational environment.
Secures facilities ad grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage, equipment loss and potential liability.
Supports assigned site administrators (e.g. monitor students, after-hours school, community functions, reports smoking in halls, assists police, etc.) for the purpose of assisting them in their work activities.
Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Monitors students for the purpose of ensuring a sage and positive school environment and/or supervising student workers.
