The General Merchandise Team Leader role is focused on leading a team to ensure a consistent and positive guest experience. This involves managing daily operations, ensuring product availability and presentation, and executing various retail tasks. The role provides opportunities to develop skills in guest service, retail business fundamentals, team leadership, and talent development. Team Leaders are responsible for planning and executing daily/weekly workloads, driving process improvements, and enhancing efficiency. They also play a key role in coaching and developing hourly team members, interviewing, and retaining talent. The position requires a strong understanding of operational procedures and their impact on inventory management, store profitability, and product availability. Team Leaders are expected to be experts in operations, accuracy, and efficiency, assigning tasks, setting clear goals, and holding team members accountable. They may also be involved in fulfillment responsibilities, ensuring product is in stock, accurately priced, and signed on the sales floor. Collaboration with other teams and leaders is essential to maintain store readiness and a positive guest experience. Staying informed about trends and relaying Target communications is also part of the role. Team Leaders are involved in evaluating candidates, developing a guest-centric team, and identifying future leaders. They also support guest services, maintain compliance, and demonstrate inclusivity and ethical conduct. Leading and demonstrating a safety culture, modeling physical security processes, and supporting merchandise protection strategies are also key responsibilities. In some instances, the Team Leader may assume Store-Level Leadership on Duty (LOD) responsibilities.
