Position Summary: Responsible for providing direct patient clinical care and managing medical problems of acutely ill, hospitalized, patients. The Hospitalist is a part of the interdisciplinary team to improve efficiency and facilitate continuum of care for patients from admission to discharge. This continuum of care includes general medicine, consults as requested, and management of patients with various comorbidities.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of medicine and the completion of a three (3) year general internal medicine residency program.
  • Board certified or board eligible in hospital medicine.
  • Valid License by State of Nevada to practice medicine.
  • State of Nevada Pharmacy Board License to Prescribe Medications and DEA Controlled Substance Registration Certificate.
  • Knowledge of equipment, supplies and practices.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, local and accreditation laws, regulations and standards.
  • Knowledge of related outside agencies, their services, roles and responsibilities to contact them to appropriate needed information for patient referrals.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of medical care.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and performance improvement principles and methods.
  • Knowledge of department and hospital safety practice and procedures.
  • Knowledge of patient rights.
  • Knowledge of age specific patient needs.
  • Knowledge of infection control policies and practices.
  • Knowledge of handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Knowledge of department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.
  • Skill in effective provision of medical care.
  • Skill in assessing and improving the effectiveness and efficiency of medical care provided through the use of hospital QI program.
  • Skill in ensuring that services are appropriate for meeting patient's medical, social and emotional needs, consistent with sound health care resource allocation practices.
  • Skill in developing goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Skill in applying leadership techniques.
  • Skill in making effective decisions under stress and emergency circumstances.
  • Skill in developing care plans.
  • Skill in solving problems.
  • Skill in using computers and related software applications.
  • Skill in communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties.
