About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, the General Mechanic I is responsible for performing unscheduled and scheduled work orders on Hospital’s equipment and utility systems. Possesses general knowledge of all building trades and maintenance procedures related to the operation of the hospital. Ensures efficient operation, inspection and maintenance of the hospital’s essential utility systems and equipment to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff and guests.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to communicate well: must be able to follow written and oral directions.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to resolve problems quickly and reliably.
  • Ability to provide technical solutions to real time problems.
  • Must maintain appropriate licensing, credentials and acceptable driving record.
  • Obey traffic laws and safety procedures

Responsibilities

  • Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
  • Uses Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to document all work performed throughout the building
  • Using Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to comply with PM’s: weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, and annually
  • Ensures timely and cooperative inter- and intra-departmental relationships and communications throughout the hospital and the system and with individuals external to the hospital and system.
  • Responds to emergencies involving essential utilities and equipment immediately during working hours and remains onsite until emergency has been resolved.
  • Acts as a member of the Facility Engineering On-call service team responsible for responding to all after-hours building emergency’s during the assigned week.
  • Keeps the management (supervisor, manager, director) appropriately informed about all significant issues and problems and seeks counsel when necessary.
  • Perform maintenance service or repairs in one or more skill areas, including minor plumbing, machine servicing, electrical repairs or installations, or vehicle servicing.
  • Performs tasks such as but not limited to changing light bulbs, installing paper/soap dispenser units, changing filters, changing hardware on doors, minor decorative maintenance and other tasks not requiring a licensed skilled trades person or journeyman.
  • Inspect, repair and install, service and maintain electrical systems including conduit systems, lighting and power circuits, control equipment, switched fans, fixtures, and clocks.
  • Cleans and lubricates parts.
  • Identifies and corrects unsafe working conditions with management oversight.
  • Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
  • Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
  • Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
  • Applies all applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to all assigned work.
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • May perform grounds keeping activities.
  • May be required to assist with special events.
  • Assists skilled trade workers in one or more areas performing specific or standard duties to learn new skills as required for advancement and certification.
  • May be required to utilize basic cleaning and other chemicals.
  • Examines mechanical equipment to diagnose trouble.
  • Disassembles machines and repairs or replaces broken parts.
  • Adjusts functional parts of mechanical devices as necessary.
  • May orders replacement parts and equipment with management approval.
  • Inspects completed repairs.
  • May be required to inventory equipment, parts and supplies.
  • May repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment, such as motors, pumps, conveyors, belts, fans, air conditioners, etc.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
  • Performs such other duties as may be required in order to assure the proper operation of all equipment and utilities as needed in the daily operation of hospital systems.
  • Using the master schedule this work is done: weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, and annually.
  • Use color charts, proper use of tools and equipment.
  • Provide assistance in various other areas of maintenance as required; perform semi-skilled to skilled maintenance repair and construction work in the basic trades.
  • Maintain a moderate inventory for day to day operations.
  • Orders parts correctly and keep up with proper paperwork.
  • Ability to communicate well: must be able to follow written and oral directions.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to resolve problems quickly and reliably.
  • Ability to provide technical solutions to real time problems.
  • Keep and maintain all emergency lighting such as exit lights and signs including parking lot lighting.
  • Is responsible for keeping mechanical and electrical rooms clean at all times.
  • Works with and monitors outside contractors while they are doing work in the hospital to insure the work is done in accordance with required standards.
  • Monitors and reports on all project work associated with the facility.
  • May drive a cart and/or drive a company vehicle to pick up supplies and/or drive to offsite properties to complete work request.
  • Must maintain appropriate licensing, credentials and acceptable driving record.
