The General Manager is completely responsible for and will be held accountable for the successful operation of the entire dealership. She / he will develop and execute plans to ensure the dealership of a reasonable profit and the stockholders of a fair return on their investments. The General Manager will accomplish all objectives through planning, motivating and coordinating the activities of all departments. This role involves understanding and executing all Sonic Automotive Playbooks, planning the dealership's operations for the coming year, and reporting the plan to the Regional Vice President and Senior Management for approval. The General Manager will obtain, review, and recommend improvements for each department manager’s monthly forecasts and plans, ensuring that every department operates harmoniously and profitably. Additionally, the role requires developing and maintaining good working relationships with the factory and lending institutions, ensuring that a completed financial statement is submitted to the factory by the 5th working day of each month, and formulating policies and establishing procedures for all training programs while monitoring their effectiveness. The General Manager will oversee all dealership personnel functions, including interviewing, hiring, performance evaluation, recognition, and termination, and will review and approve compensation plans for all employees. Ensuring that department managers are training and supervising employees for optimum effectiveness, communicating management’s policies and procedures to all employees, and conducting formal performance evaluations for each department manager every six months are also key responsibilities. The role demands providing enthusiastic leadership to shape employees’ attitudes and build morale, establishing harmony and teamwork among departments, conducting managers’ meetings at scheduled intervals, and coordinating with the business office to ensure accurate record-keeping and analysis. Developing merchandising strategies, assisting in creating an effective, cost-efficient advertising program, and resolving customer complaints that line management cannot resolve are also part of the job. The General Manager must follow all company safety policies and procedures.
