About The Position

The General Manager will be responsible for directing landscape foremen and crews, ensuring operational work standards are met, and fostering a positive work environment. This role involves a deep understanding of horticulture, landscape design, construction, and maintenance, as well as managing employee relations, developing departmental budgets, and coordinating with other departments to ensure project success and client satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Mandatory 10+ years of landscape design, construction & maintenance experience with a minimum of 5 years managing landscape teams.
  • Expert level knowledge of best practices regarding landscape irrigation, hardscape construction, and residential landscape maintenance.
  • Ability to work outdoors and lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • Pass a drug test.
  • Pass a criminal background check.
  • Provide 2 forms of ID.

Responsibilities

  • Direct Landscape Foremen and crews on executing operational work standards.
  • Gain and share knowledge of Horticulture and all related practices.
  • Explain policies, procedures, laws and standards to new and existing employees as needed.
  • Work with HR personnel to manage employee relations issues.
  • Learn and understand procedures and employee handbook and use them to create goals that improve department workflow.
  • Complete relevant employee reviews and confer with HR for filing.
  • Identify and communicate needed assignment changes to improve personnel performance and track improvement.
  • Assist in the implementation of new administrative systems and assist in developing departmental budgets.
  • Coordinate purchase of supplies, equipment and forms with owner’s approval.
  • Promote Unique Landscaping’s culture of a fun, supportive work environment.
  • Assist with the creation of training and development programs for field and office staff.
  • Collaborate with employees as necessary on special projects.
  • Confer with Production to create work schedules depending on work priorities, crew and equipment availability and weather conditions.
  • Monitor multiple residential estates to ensure that instructions and design plans are followed, deadlines are met, and schedules are maintained.
  • Execute operating procedures and work standards that will ensure adequate performance and personnel safety.
  • Confer with the Design Supervisor, Administrative Manager, and Production Supervisor to coordinate work activities with those other departments.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure conformance to specifications, standards, and contract requirements.
  • Train and coach both skilled and unskilled laborers regarding consistent landscape techniques.
  • Provide workers with assistance in performing duties as necessary to meet deadlines.
  • Landscape equipment service, repair and inventory.
  • Schedule and follow-up on truck & trailer maintenance, equipment services, repairs, and inventory.
