About The Position

The general manager of a Sparrow cafe is the leader of the cafe, responsible for operations, staff management, customer experience, financial oversight, inventory and supplier coordination, and marketing and growth.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of management experience in a cafe or restaurant environment.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, email, and other computer applications as needed.
Must be able to stand for prolonged periods up to 8 hours.
Must be able to stoop, bend, and walk repetitively for prolonged periods up to 8 hours.
Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

Lead the day-to-day activities of the staff and managers in the cafe to achieve or exceed targeted sales goals, speed of service, standard operating procedures, consistent food and beverage quality, safety standards, customer satisfaction, exceptional hospitality, cleanliness and overall ambience.
Proficient in all operations of the cafe including opening, mid, and closing shifts.
Oversee cafe equipment maintenance and cleanliness to maintain a fully functional and welcoming cafe to both staff and guests.
Ensure the Daily Cafe Functions checklist is delegated and completed in a timely manner.
Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures and any local, state and federal laws, including but not limited to staff benefits, PTO, and mandatory training.
Ensure the cafe and cafe staff consistently meets food and beverage safety standards according to the IL Health Department.
Complete the weekly staff schedule in a timely manner
Consistently hire, develop, and retain a strong team to ensure appropriate staffing levels.
Oversee the hiring, coaching, training, promotion, disciplinary action, termination, or the transfer of any team member.
Foster a work culture of continued coaching, learning, development and recognition.
Address any customer needs and resolve issues, complaints, and reviews in a professional and timely manner, ensuring positive and long-term customer relationships.
Attend weekly finance meetings and be fluent in the current metrics of the Scorecard: monitor weekly cost of goods, sales, labor, and Google reviews. Predict weekly sales forecasts for labor/scheduling needs and make adjustments to inventories and labor accordingly. Be able to explain current scorecard trends.
Maintain cooperative relationships with vendors, local businesses and community programs.
Work collaboratively and have open communication with all Sparrow departments including the Sparrow Partners, Roastery Staff, Payroll, Human Resources, Office, and IT.
