About The Position

The General Manager is responsible for the overall operations, leadership, and performance of the Sacaton Market, including oversight of an on-site gas station and laundromat. This role ensures a high-quality shopping experience by maintaining exceptional customer service, efficient operations, and compliance with company policies and regulations. The General Manager provides strategic direction, manages financial performance, and supervises the store leadership to achieve operational goals and foster a positive work environment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in merchandising and/or management in a retail or related environment.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience in a grocery store or related environment.
  • Certification in food safety or sanitation (e.g., ServSafe, Food Handlers Card) or attained within 30 days of hire.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid within 90 days of hire.
  • A satisfactory result obtained through a test for illegal drugs.
  • Acknowledge and agree to maintain a drug-free workplace.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree in business administration, management or related field.
  • One (1) year of experience with the technical skills to assist as needed in all departments within the market.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire and lead a diverse team in achieving department goals.
  • Collaborative mindset to work with other grocery departments, such as deli or produce, for cross-promotional opportunities.
  • Excellent customer service and professional etiquette.

  • Familiarity with laundromat equipment maintenance and customer service best practices.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Gila River Indian Community or other Native American Communities.
  • Proficient in MS office and other relevant workplace tools.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for daily store operations of all departments, working with employees and leaders at all levels to achieve sales, profitability, and operational goals.
  • Develop business leaders who understand financial performance, operational excellence, customer service, and accountability while preparing future leaders through coaching and development.
  • Build a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement across all departments.
  • Act as the primary leader in addressing operational challenges and decision-making needs.
  • Enforce company policies and procedures across all departments to maintain operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
  • Partner with the Director of Operations to develop and manage the store's annual operating budget while achieving sales, profitability, labor, and expense goals.
  • Review financial performance and key performance indicators (KPI) to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Drive profitability through effective labor management, inventory control, expense management, and strategic decision-making.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the entire staff including line level employees, Assistant Managers and Supervisors.
  • Facilitate training programs tailored to department-specific needs for new hires and ongoing development for existing team members.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one coaching sessions and performance reviews with Assistant Managers to support growth and accountability.
  • Identify and develop succession plans to prepare future leaders within the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations in every department to provide a safe environment for employees and customers.
  • Oversee conduction of regular safety audits and inspections across all areas, addressing any issues immediately.
  • Assist and advocate for training team members in each department on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and proper handling of equipment and products.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of emergency response protocols and employee safety training programs.
  • Ensure that all leaders follow company incident reporting procedures in the prescribed system in a timely manner.
  • Oversee the freshness, quality, and proper rotation of products in all departments, including perishable and prepared items.
  • Ensure that aisles, shelves, and department-specific displays are clean, well-organized, and fully stocked.
  • Address customer feedback related to product quality or department appearance promptly.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to maintain the store's overall aesthetic appeal and high-quality standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels in each department to prevent overstock or shortages and ensure availability of key items.
  • Oversee ordering and receiving processes in collaboration with department leaders to maintain accurate stock levels.
  • Perform and partner with leaders to conduct regular inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies across all departments.
  • Minimize waste and shrink through effective inventory control practices in perishable and non-perishable areas.
  • Implement company merchandising strategies across all departments to maximize sales and enhance customer experience.
  • Plan and execute seasonal promotions, displays, and special events tailored to each department.
  • Analyze sales trends to identify opportunities for improving product placement and merchandising tactics in individual departments.
  • Maintain compliance with pricing and promotional guidelines across all areas of the store.
  • Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead operational audits and implement corrective actions to improve performance.
  • Utilize reporting tools and technology to monitor operational performance and support informed decision-making.
  • Maintain a customer-ready store with clean, safe facilities, proper stock levels, and accurate pricing.
  • Understand customer needs to drive strategic merchandising plans.
  • Foster community relationships to maintain a positive company image.
  • Create and uphold a culture of exceptional customer service.
  • Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes hiring, work allocation, training, problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance; provides guidance and feedback for assigned staff.
