About The Position

The General Manager runs a business unit with a profit and loss statement of $6 million or more. This role involves leadership of two to four teams totaling 8 to 15 people (direct and indirect), ownership of customer relationships within the unit, and accountability for the financial result. The General Manager will set priorities, build the team, and be compensated based on the unit's performance. Tharp Custom Cabinetry, a family-owned business with over 50 years of history and the largest custom cabinet manufacturer in Colorado, provides an established plant, order volume, brand, and balance sheet. This position offers the experience of running a business without the personal capital, payroll exposure, or constant need to find new projects associated with ownership.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and act on profit and loss statements and be accountable for financial results.
  • Experience in developing teams.
  • Ability to protect and grow customer relationships.
  • Willingness to redesign work processes.
  • Judgment on when to escalate project issues.
  • Curiosity and discipline to pursue problems to their root cause.
  • Ability to lead in a demanding market environment.
  • Accountability for team capacity, productivity, profitability, and quality.
  • Experience in construction and project leadership within finishing trades, prepared to own financial outcomes.
  • Experience in cabinetry and millwork, seeking the process, equipment, and scale of an established manufacturer.
  • Experience as an operator in other build-to-order manufacturing or service businesses.
  • Strong judgment skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with Lean principles and the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS).
  • Prior experience with the Shingo model.

Responsibilities

  • Manage profit and loss, including margin, labor, and operating decisions.
  • Lead project managers, project coordinators, and installation personnel, focusing on their further development.
  • Manage and grow customer relationships with builders, designers, and homeowners throughout Colorado.
  • Redesign work processes within the unit for continuous improvement.
  • Exercise judgment on project issue escalation and be present during critical escalations.
