About The Position

Martin Equipment is a fourth-generation, family-owned John Deere Construction dealership with nearly 100 years of history. We are seeking a General Manager to lead our Columbia, Missouri location—driving performance, developing people, and delivering an exceptional customer experience. This is a key leadership role responsible for the overall success of the branch, ensuring alignment with company values while achieving operational and financial goals. The General Manager is responsible for directing all branch activities to support customers and drive sustained growth. This role oversees business performance, team development, and operational execution—ensuring the location meets financial targets while fostering a culture focused on employees, customers, and long-term success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or equivalent experience required
  • Experience in dealership operations, construction equipment, or a related industry
  • Proven experience leading teams and managing performance
  • Strong understanding of financial metrics, budgeting, and business planning
  • Experience managing customer relationships, including escalated situations
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strategic thinking with strong problem-solving ability
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Technical proficiency, including Microsoft Office and business systems
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and align teams across departments

Responsibilities

  • Execute the branch business plan, including sales, budgeting, and cost control
  • Drive profitable growth while maintaining a strong customer focus
  • Build and maintain relationships with new and existing customers, resolving escalated issues as needed
  • Lead communication across departments and facilitate regular management and team meetings
  • Champion Martin Equipment’s values, mission, and vision within the location
  • Collaborate with other General Managers to ensure consistency across all locations
  • Support corporate initiatives and implement organizational changes at the branch level
  • Oversee marketing activities, customer events, and local promotions
  • Ensure facility maintenance, safety, and a professional appearance of the location
  • Support hiring, development, coaching, and performance management of the team
  • Partner with key John Deere representatives and maintain strong OEM relationships
  • Ensure teams are equipped and positioned to operate efficiently and effectively
  • Promote a culture of safety and accountability throughout the branch
  • Represent the company in key sales opportunities as needed
