With over 80 years of serving our nation’s Veterans, the Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) is currently seeking progressive Leaders who want to grow with us. We are looking for dynamic General Managers to join our fast- paced environment and have a passion for our Veterans and their families with prior multi-unit experience. The VCS is a federal agency under the Department of Veterans Affairs and operates cafés, retail stores, coffee shops, and vending machines across the country.

Requirements

Minimum of 3-5 years of direct food/retail management experience
Prior experience with inventory management, supply cost and shrinkage controls, and P&L management experience.
Proven track record of building sales, increasing profits, staff development
Ability to assess business needs and problem solve
Hands-on leadership with a strong focus on service and hospitality
Proficient computer skills using Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, etc.)
Experience with POS Systems
ServSafe certification required or obtained within 90 days of hire date
A current, valid REAL ID is required to work at Veterans Canteen Service.
Will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period.
Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required.

Associate Degree preferred, but not required, in Business, Hospitality or Management.

Responsibilities

Oversees all aspects of canteen operations in Topeka, KS, including retail, food service, vending, sales, merchandising, and accountability.
Entails comprehensive personnel management, administrative oversight, and process evaluations related to canteen functions, such as planograms (POGs), retail point-of-sale (RPOS) systems, inventory control, stock scheduling, food safety, sanitation, and promotional initiatives.
Responsible for achieving financial targets and executing program objectives as directed by the Veterans Canteen Service Central Office (VCSCO) and/or the Regional Director.
