About The Position

CURTIS AUTO GROUP Automotive General Manager Job Description Position Title: General Manager (GM) Department: Executive Management Reports To: Dealer Principal / Executive Leadership Team POSITION SUMMARY Curtis Auto Group is seeking an experienced, results-driven Automotive General Manager to oversee all aspects of dealership operations. The General Manager is responsible for driving profitability, operational excellence, customer satisfaction, employee development, and market share growth across all departments. The GM serves as the senior operational leader of the dealership and is accountable for achieving financial objectives while maintaining the highest standards of customer experience, manufacturer compliance, and team performance. This position requires strong leadership, strategic planning, financial acumen, and a proven track record of success in automotive retail management.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive automotive retail management experience.
  • Previous General Manager, General Sales Manager, or Fixed Operations leadership experience preferred.
  • Proven history of achieving profitability and growth objectives.
  • Strong understanding of dealership financial statements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple departments effectively.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Multi-franchise dealership experience.
  • Experience with CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds, Dealertrack, Tekion, or similar dealership systems.
  • Advanced financial statement analysis experience.
  • Proven success in both variable and fixed operations leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all dealership operations including Sales, Used Vehicles, Finance & Insurance, Service, Parts, and Administration.
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain high-performing department managers and staff.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and accountability measures for all departments.
  • Foster a culture focused on integrity, teamwork, customer service, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular management meetings to review dealership performance and strategic initiatives.
  • Promote Curtis Auto Group’s mission, values, and commitment to operational excellence.
  • Achieve dealership profitability objectives and annual business plans.
  • Review monthly financial statements and departmental performance reports.
  • Monitor and improve key financial metrics including: Net Profit, Variable Gross Profit, Fixed Operations Gross Profit, Service Absorption, Expense Management, Return on Assets.
  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets.
  • Identify opportunities to increase revenue while controlling expenses.
  • Ensure accurate forecasting and inventory management.
  • Oversee all new and used vehicle sales activities.
  • Monitor inventory levels, aging, acquisition strategies, and pricing.
  • Ensure compliance with Curtis Auto Group sales processes and manufacturer requirements.
  • Drive lead conversion, appointment show rates, closing ratios, and customer retention.
  • Support Finance & Insurance operations to maximize profitability and customer value.
  • Analyze market conditions and competitive trends to improve market share.
  • Direct Service and Parts departments to achieve profitability and customer retention goals.
  • Monitor: Service Absorption, Effective Labor Rate, Technician Productivity, Technician Efficiency, Customer Pay Sales, Parts Gross Profit, Warranty Performance.
  • Ensure efficient workflow and operational excellence throughout fixed operations.
  • Support training and development initiatives for technicians, advisors, and parts personnel.
  • Maintain exceptional Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) performance.
  • Address and resolve escalated customer concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Promote a customer-first culture throughout the organization.
  • Monitor online reputation management and customer feedback platforms.
  • Ensure compliance with Curtis Auto Group customer experience standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and manufacturer regulations.
  • Maintain adherence to employment laws, safety standards, and company policies.
  • Oversee audits related to sales, F&I, accounting, service, and warranty operations.
  • Protect dealership assets and maintain operational controls.
  • Develop and execute short-term and long-term growth strategies.
  • Analyze market opportunities and competitive conditions.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on expansion initiatives and operational improvements.
  • Lead change management efforts and process improvement projects.
