About The Position

Northland Properties, a 100% Canadian-owned company with over 50 years of experience in hotels, restaurants, resorts, sports, construction, and asset management, is seeking a General Manager for The Sutton Place Hotel Toronto. This role is a strategic leadership position overseeing all hotel operations to achieve business and financial goals. The General Manager will foster a highly engaged team environment focused on delivering exceptional guest experiences. The Sutton Place Hotel Toronto is an 118-room hotel located in the heart of the Toronto Entertainment District.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a hotel leadership role in a similar environment.
  • Understanding of what is required to provide exceptional guest service and consistency in product.
  • Strong technical knowledge of all areas of hotel and strata operations (Rooms, Revenue, Sales, Accounting, Human Resources, Security, Strata Corporation, Rental Pool Management).
  • Outstanding communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
  • Proven ability to foster highly engaged work teams via Department Manager and Team Member development, accountability, and performance management, recognition, and reward programs.
  • Ability to work effectively and calmly under pressure in a fast-paced environment and balance multiple deadlines.
  • Skills in effective budgeting, long and short-term planning, forecasting, cost controls, and accurate/timely reporting.
  • Fine attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in current technology such as Microsoft Office and property management & control systems.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of hotel operations in a strategic leadership role, ensuring achievement of business and financial goals.
  • Develop an environment that fosters a highly engaged team, motivated to provide consistently exceptional guest experiences.
  • Manage operating results including NOP, Guest & Team Member satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with the Revenue Management team to develop effective pricing strategies, balancing all factors and supporting the brand position in the local market.
  • Identify opportunities to grow occupancy, RevPAR, and market share.
  • Oversee and continually improve hotel daily operations and standards, ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot issues to ensure timely and efficient solutions and communication for guest/employee satisfaction.
  • Maintain an open-door policy and liaise with Human Resources to create a fair and consistent environment with highly engaged team members.
  • Provide coaching, support, and development to hotel department leaders to ensure achievement of financial and operational goals and high levels of guest service and product quality.
  • Prepare, present, and achieve the hotel's annual Operating Budget and Capital Budget.
  • Ensure monthly financial outlooks, forecasting, and all other reports are on time, on target, and accurate.
  • Monitor departmental revenues and expenses to control costs and maximize profit.
  • Ensure full compliance with the hotel's operating controls.
  • Stay current with industry trends and competitive market positioning.
  • Support the hotel's Health & Safety Program, including emergency response procedures, Fire & Safety training, and the Certificate of Recognition (COR) Program.
  • Actively participate in the local community and build strong business relationships.
  • Perform other duties as required.
