About The Position

U-Haul is seeking a responsible, motivated, and thoughtful General Manager to oversee a moving and storage center in Houston, Texas. The role is responsible for keeping the center profitable and efficient through effective staffing, inventory tracking, and equipment management, while resolving issues as they arise. The work is varied and fast-paced. The General Manager manages fleet readiness, financial performance, personnel budgets, inventory, customer service, cash and fuel receipts, and the security and upkeep of the premises. The position also participates in ongoing education through U-Haul University. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship. U-Haul states that, consistent with applicable state law, it will not hire or re-hire nicotine product users in Texas and the other listed states.

Requirements

1–3 years of management experience in retail or another service industry, with responsibility for financial results and customer satisfaction.
Computer expertise.
Organizational expertise.
Management proficiency in high-volume retail with profit and loss (P&L) accountability.
Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a good driving record.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to work weekends and holidays.
Legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship.

Responsibilities

Manage the fleet to deliver clean and well-maintained equipment.
Perform profit/loss analyses.
Hire and mentor new team members.
Track and itemize inventory.
Manage the personnel budget.
Ensure that customers receive the highest quality of care.
Keep track of fuel receipts and petty cash.
Clean and monitor the premises, and maintain a secure environment.
Participate in ongoing continuous U-Haul education through U-Haul University.
