The General Manager is an executive leader responsible for the overall leadership, growth, and profitability of the Compressed Air Division. This role holds full responsibility for the division's profit and loss (P&L), strategic direction, sales performance, service operations, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence. The General Manager collaborates with executive leadership to develop and implement business strategies aimed at driving sustainable revenue growth, enhancing profitability, and strengthening the division's market standing. Direct reports include the Regional Sales Manager, Regional Service Manager, Regional Operations Manager, and Finance. The General Manager's leadership ensures the alignment of sales, service, operations, and finance to achieve business objectives while cultivating a high-performance, customer-centric culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Business, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in industrial distribution, compressed air systems, rotating equipment, manufacturing, or a related industry.
  • Demonstrated success leading multi-functional business operations with full P&L responsibility.
  • Experience leading sales, service, operations, and financial performance within a service-oriented industrial business.
  • Strong understanding of industrial equipment sales, aftermarket service, maintenance contracts, and customer lifecycle management.
  • Proven ability to develop leaders and build high-performing teams.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasting, pricing strategies, and profitability improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent strategic planning, communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with customers, employees, suppliers, and executive leadership.
  • Proficiency with ERP, CRM, and business intelligence reporting systems.
  • Ability to travel approximately 20–25% to support branch locations, customers, and industry events.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the Compressed Air Division.
  • Develop and execute annual business plans that support revenue growth, profitability, and market expansion.
  • Identify new market opportunities, strategic partnerships, and acquisition opportunities where appropriate.
  • Build a culture focused on safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and exceptional customer service.
  • Ensure alignment between divisional goals and corporate strategic initiatives.
  • Maintain full accountability for the division's financial performance, including revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, EBITDA, and cash flow.
  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets, forecasts, and capital expenditure plans.
  • Monitor key financial metrics and implement corrective actions to achieve profitability targets.
  • Drive initiatives that improve operational efficiencies, productivity, pricing strategies, and overall business performance.
  • Present financial results, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Regional Sales Manager to achieve revenue and profitability objectives.
  • Establish sales goals, territory strategies, pricing initiatives, and growth plans across equipment, service, rentals, parts, and aftermarket offerings.
  • Support the development of key customer relationships and participate in executive-level customer meetings when appropriate.
  • Review major quotations, contracts, and pricing strategies to ensure alignment with profitability goals.
  • Monitor sales performance metrics and coach leaders to improve pipeline development, conversion rates, and customer retention.
  • Oversee all operational functions including service, parts, warehouse, field service, rentals, and administrative operations.
  • Ensure operational efficiency while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction and service responsiveness.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance productivity, quality, inventory management, and cost control.
  • Ensure service operations maximize technician utilization, response times, and first-time fix rates.
  • Collaborate with operations leaders to optimize staffing, scheduling, fleet utilization, and resource planning.
  • Champion a customer-first culture focused on responsiveness, reliability, and long-term partnerships.
  • Maintain relationships with strategic customers and key accounts.
  • Resolve significant customer issues while identifying opportunities to strengthen customer loyalty.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction metrics and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing leaders throughout the division.
  • Coach and mentor department managers while promoting accountability and leadership development.
  • Conduct regular business reviews, establish performance expectations, and ensure alignment with company values.
  • Partner with Human Resources on workforce planning, succession planning, employee engagement, and organizational development.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) across sales, service, operations, and financial performance.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, environmental requirements, and industry standards.
  • Promote Lean, continuous improvement, and best practices throughout the division.
  • Drive operational consistency across all branch locations within the division.
