About The Position

Rotating Machinery Services (RMS) was established in 1998 with the vision to reinvent the concept of an aftermarket turbomachinery business. RMS provides operators of rotating equipment with unparalleled service rooted in strong engineering, technical expertise, and responsiveness in both pricing and lead times. The General Manager (GM) of the BJ Superior facility is responsible for the overall operation of the site, including health and safety, quality, delivery performance, and financial results. The GM will lead daily management, set performance goals, and ensure effective communication and alignment across all functions. As a specialized manufacturing and repair facility focused on Babbitted bearings and sealing solutions, the GM will play a key role in optimizing operations, strengthening technical capabilities, and supporting the continued growth of RMS’s vertically integrated supply of critical rotating equipment components. This leader must bring high energy, technical competence, and a hands-on approach while promoting RMS’ culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience within the rotating equipment, turbomachinery, or precision manufacturing industry.
  • Demonstrated success managing operations with responsibility for safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Strong technical understanding of bearing systems, sealing technology, or rotating equipment repair/manufacturing processes.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems, BOM structures, and production workflows.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and foster collaboration across departments.
  • Willingness to be hands-on in a shop environment.
  • The position may be based in RMS’s South Houston, TX facility.
  • Minimum expectation of 40 hours per week, averaging 45 hours per week.
  • May be required to participate in the company random or customer specific drug and alcohol screening and background check.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug, alcohol test, and background check.
  • Ability to act professionally under stressful situations.
  • Able to understand, read, write and speak English.
  • Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. (with assistance).
  • Ability to stand, sit, bend, and walk for significant portions of the shift.
  • Must not have allergies or issues related to handling metals, including aluminum, copper, bronze, and steel.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to meet specific requirements for government contracts that impose specific requirements on employees working on those projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience with Babbitt bearing manufacturing, repair, or metallurgical processes.
  • Familiarity with Lean, 5S, or Kaizen methodologies.
  • Previous P&L responsibility at a site or business unit level.
  • Experience supporting high-speed rotating equipment applications.

Responsibilities

  • Set and uphold a strong safety culture; ensure compliance with all safety policies and procedures.

  • Drive daily management practices, ensuring performance KPIs are visible and actionable.
  • Foster collaboration between functional leads to ensure alignment and efficiency.
  • Serve as a visible leader who drives results through engagement, empowerment, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Oversee all shop operations including Babbitt casting, machining, assembly, and inspection.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards, delivery schedules, and cost targets.
  • Collaborate with Planning/Scheduling to drive on-time project completion.
  • Maintain ownership of KPIs, leveraging data to identify improvement opportunities and reduce cycle time.
  • Ensure proper utilization of manpower, equipment, and facilities.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance and facility improvements.
  • Support repair, manufacturing, and engineered order work conducted within the BJ Superior facility.
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance during disassembly, inspection, repair, and manufacturing of Babbitted bearings and sealing systems.
  • Ensure compliance with manufacturing and repair methods for: Hydrodynamic and tilting pad bearings, Journal and thrust bearings, Labyrinth and oil sealing systems.
  • Support production of high-speed oil seals and custom sealing solutions for compressors, turbines, motors, and pumps.
  • Partner with Engineering on OEM replacements, reverse engineering, and retrofit solutions.
  • Support Quality Control in troubleshooting non-conformances and root cause analyses.
  • Review and interpret complex drawings, tolerances, and technical procedures.
  • Maintain familiarity with metallurgical processes, Babbitt materials, machining practices, and balancing principles.
  • Recruit, train, and mentor staff and craft labor to build a high-performing team.
  • Partner with HR to resolve personnel matters and ensure adherence to RMS policies.
  • Conduct timely performance evaluations and maintain training and skills matrices.
  • Promote knowledge transfer in specialized bearing and sealing technologies.
  • Encourage employee engagement, ownership, and professional growth.
  • Manage site-level P&L, including CAPEX, OPEX, headcount, and utilization.
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Participate in business planning and resource allocation decisions.
  • Support growth initiatives tied to aftermarket services, OEM replacement parts, and engineered upgrades.
