General Manager

ReturnProCalgary, AB
Onsite

About The Position

ReturnPro is solving the last unsolved frontier in retail: returns. We have built the first fully integrated, technology-enabled reverse logistics and ReCommerce platform, unifying distribution, refurbishment, recovery analytics, and disposition strategy into one scalable network. Returns are one of retail's largest unsolved problems, eroding margins, disrupting logistics, damaging customer experience, and generating enormous waste. ReturnPro turns returns from a cost center into a recovery engine through its integrated solution spanning SaaS technology, reverse supply chain services, and recommerce. To date, ReturnPro has diverted more than 100 million pounds of product from landfills. This is not incremental improvement; it is redefining how retailers handle returns at scale. Our U.S. and Canadian facilities operate as one network with shared systems, standards, and a shared scoreboard. Calgary is the next node in this network, and ReturnPro is opening its newest Canadian facility there. This is a rare General Manager seat where the individual will create the facility from the ground up, pick their team, shape the floor, set the standards, and own end-to-end execution, including safety, growth, profitability, productivity, quality, and cost across return to vendor, liquidation, fulfillment, testing, and repair. There are no layers between the GM and the outcome. This role offers the chance to add a chapter to ReturnPro’s legacy of solving returns by building a high-performance culture from the ground up, supported by a proven playbook from existing U.S. and Canadian facilities. This includes labor allocation by program and activity, visibility into UPH and MPU down to the teammate level, and partners across the border who have experience in this domain. The Calgary facility is the GM's to build, with the network's support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, logistics, management, or related field.
  • 8+ years leading 200+ associates in logistics, warehouse, or inventory operations, with demonstrated management qualifications.
  • High level of reverse logistics and distribution business acumen.
  • Greenfield launch or facility start-up experience strongly preferred.
  • P&L ownership: budget preparation, GL management, cost control, and performance reporting.
  • Six Sigma, lean, or related certification or training strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Canadian health, safety, and environmental standards (Alberta OHS, WCB) and compliance requirements.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Data-driven operator: fluent in labor productivity metrics (UPH, MPU, cost per unit), reads reports and KPIs, identifies the right levers, and drives execution to target.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills; confident building relationships across clients and all levels of the business.
  • People leader: attracts, develops, and retains talent through coaching and top grading; holds a high bar with integrity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communicator — credible with clients, executives, and the floor alike.
  • Strong time management and project management skills; manages competing priorities without dropping the ball.
  • Operates with integrity, professionalism, and a bias toward action.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as hire #1: lead the end-to-end launch of ReturnPro’s newest Canadian facility — from site readiness and equipment installation through first receipt and first ship.
  • Build the team from the ground up: recruit and onboard the managers, supervisors, and hourly teammates who will define this building — every hire after inherits the culture set by the GM.
  • Define what high performance looks like on day one: set the standards, model them on the floor, and make accountability a point of pride before the first unit ships.
  • Stand up systems, SOPs, and safety programs in partnership with U.S. and Canadian facilities — adopt what’s proven across the network and adapt what Calgary needs.
  • Run the site like it’s your business: own daily and weekly operational plans, beat client SLAs, and squeeze maximum efficiency out of every shift.
  • Set operational goals from KPIs and client SLAs; drive throughput (UPH), accuracy, and quality across receiving, check-in, testing, put-away, pick, pack, and ship.
  • Own inventory accuracy and control; read reports, find gaps, and close them across productivity, accuracy, quality, and expense.
  • Balance labor against volume daily using program- and activity-level labor allocation — know exactly where every hour goes and deploy it where it earns the most.
  • Track production against plan with UPH and MPU metrics; catch drift early and correct it before it touches the P&L.
  • Own the money: site P&L, budget, and General Ledger — analyze financial performance and deliver profitability against plan.
  • Be the face of ReturnPro in Western Canada: build client relationships in support of a keep-and-grow strategy; partner with key account management on QBRs and monthly reporting.
  • Partner with Industrial Engineers and facility leaders across the U.S. and Canadian network to import proven Standard Operating Procedures — then make Calgary the new benchmark.
  • Investigate operational errors to determine root cause and recommend corrective action; maintain audit-ready documentation at all times.
  • Embed lean and continuous improvement discipline across the facility — prioritize the highest-impact gaps and prove the results in the numbers.
  • Interact effectively at multiple levels; demonstrate on-the-floor listening and follow-up that builds trust with clients, teammates, and corporate partners.
  • Attract, develop, and retain top Canadian talent through active coaching and top grading; promote from within as the building grows.
  • Manage a diverse teammate population; nurture positive teammate relations and a productive work environment across all shifts.
  • Develop, implement, and direct equipment preventative maintenance programs and facility building and grounds upkeep.
  • Ensure equipment and work areas are neat, clean, and well organized; enforce corporate policies and procedures across the site.
  • Implement and observe all safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe, compliant work environment aligned with Alberta OHS and all applicable Canadian requirements.
