About The Position

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on General Manager to oversee operations for our Long Beach, California account. This leadership role is responsible for managing daily operations, leading a team of 30+ employees, ensuring exceptional service delivery, and maintaining high operational standards across all maintenance functions. This is not a desk job. The ideal candidate leads by example and is willing to work alongside their team when needed, including performing pressure washing, litter abatement, and other maintenance duties. Candidates must be flexible with scheduling, as business needs include weekends, holidays, and varying shifts. This position is 100% on-site in Long Beach, CA and requires commuting to the account five days per week. We're looking for a leader who isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, leads from the front, communicates effectively with employees and clients, and understands that great leadership means supporting the team both in the office and in the field.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of management experience in maintenance, facilities, public works, environmental services, landscaping, or a related operations environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams, with the ability to prepare reports, schedules, presentations, and other operational documentation.
  • Proven experience supervising 30 or more employees in a fast-paced operational setting.
  • Strong background in maintenance operations with a willingness to perform field work alongside staff.
  • Excellent verbal communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.
  • Experience leading safety meetings, operational presentations, and client discussions.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment screening as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, push, and pull throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Comfortable operating maintenance equipment and performing physical labor when operational needs require.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing municipal, commercial, or public sector service contracts.
  • Experience with scheduling software, Microsoft Office, and workforce management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and develop a workforce of 30+ employees, including supervisors and field staff.
  • Oversee all daily maintenance operations to ensure contract compliance, quality standards, and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide strong leadership through coaching, performance management, employee development, and accountability.
  • Conduct regular team meetings, safety briefings, and operational presentations with confidence and professionalism.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, municipal representatives, and community stakeholders.
  • Monitor staffing levels, scheduling, labor hours, productivity, and operational performance.
  • Ensure all maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards.
  • Perform field inspections, quality assurance audits, and corrective action planning.
  • Assist with hands-on operational work when necessary, including: Pressure washing, Litter abatement, General grounds and facility maintenance, Equipment operation and support.
  • Respond to operational emergencies and changing business needs as required.
  • Maintain compliance with all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Complete administrative responsibilities including reports, scheduling, employee documentation, and operational planning.
