About The Position

Obvio AI is seeking a General Manager / Market Lead to drive market growth in their assigned territory. This role is akin to a Founder's proxy, responsible for strategic coordination across sales, government relations, customer pilots, lobbyists, and cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate is a builder who is comfortable engaging directly with legislators and pilot customers, similar to early-stage launch roles at companies like Uber or Lyft, but with the added complexity of public-sector stakeholders and policy shaping.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in high-growth, operationally intense environments (startups, marketplace businesses, or territory-based sales organizations ideal).
  • High intellectual and strategic horsepower; ability to pattern-match quickly, synthesize complex information, and make sharp decisions under uncertainty.
  • Proven track record of opening or scaling a new market, city, or territory.
  • Strong outbound presence and credibility with senior stakeholders (C-suite buyers, state legislators, procurement officers).
  • Entrepreneurial mindset; experience operating like a founder or starting something independently.
  • Relentlessly outbound and action-oriented approach to pipeline development.
  • Ability to think strategically and execute tactically.
  • Comfort and ability to learn quickly in government and political environments, understanding procurement cycles, legislative calendars, and policy advocacy.
  • Exceptional communication and trust-building skills.
  • Energized by public-private partnerships and solving complex puzzles within government structures.
  • Scrappy, resourceful, and able to find workarounds to achieve goals.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA, management consulting, or a founded-and-operated-something background.
  • Government or public-sector experience.
  • Experience at companies operating at the intersection of technology and the public sector.

Responsibilities

  • Build and execute the go-to-market plan for an assigned territory, owning the revenue target and coordinating resources to achieve it.
  • Prospect and close new government and enterprise accounts through outbound sales and business development efforts.
  • Engage with state and local legislators, attend hearings, and build relationships to convert policy conversations into procurement opportunities.
  • Strategically direct external lobbyists to ensure alignment with company priorities and messaging, holding them accountable for outcomes.
  • Coordinate pilot programs with product, engineering, and customer teams, ensuring successful conversion to contracts.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues within the sales funnel, removing blockers and re-engaging stakeholders to rescue at-risk opportunities.
  • Represent the company in court sessions, regulatory meetings, and public comment periods.
  • Act as a liaison between HQ and the market, coordinating cross-functional teams (product, marketing, legal, ops) around market-specific needs without direct reporting lines.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary plus aggressive performance-based compensation tied to market revenue targets.
  • Equity participation.
  • Full benefits package including health, dental, and vision.
  • Travel budget and autonomy to run the market.
