About The Position

The General Manager - Fuel Operations is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's fuel operations, including procurement, supply management, pricing, transportation, logistics, dealer and wholesale operations, environmental compliance, capital projects, maintenance, and vendor management. This role involves developing and implementing long-term fuel growth strategies, evaluating new business opportunities, and analyzing market conditions and emerging fuel technologies. The position requires strong leadership, negotiation, analytical, and project management skills to ensure profitability, supply continuity, and regulatory compliance across a large network of fuel operations.

Requirements

  • Previous leadership experience in petroleum/fuel wholesale or a related service industry (10+ years preferred)
  • Previous experience managing multi-site fuel operations
  • Previous experience managing vendor relationships
  • Previous experience with fuel procurement, logistics and pricing
  • Previous experience with environmental compliance and fuel system operations
  • Previous experience managing large-scale operations budgets, conducting financial forecasting and margin analysis
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including intermediate excel skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong communication, relationship building and collaboration skills

Responsibilities

  • Manage branded and unbranded fuel procurement programs.
  • Negotiate fuel supply agreements with major oil companies and wholesalers.
  • Oversee fuel allocation management during supply disruptions and market constraints.
  • Develop supply strategies to maximize profitability and maintain supply continuity.
  • Manage diesel, gasoline, DEF, ethanol, and specialty fuel programs.
  • Establish daily fuel pricing strategies for all company-owned and dealer-operated locations.
  • Monitor market trends, rack pricing, competitor activity, and margin performance.
  • Forecast fuel sales, inventory levels, and gross profit.
  • Analyze financial performance and implement pricing adjustments to achieve profitability targets.
  • Maintain company pricing policies and promotional programs.
  • Oversee fuel dispatch operations and transportation providers.
  • Manage carrier relationships and transportation contracts.
  • Coordinate fuel deliveries to maintain optimal days-on-hand inventory levels.
  • Develop contingency plans during supply shortages, allocation events, natural disasters, and market disruptions.
  • Monitor freight costs and transportation efficiencies.
  • Manage dealer fuel agreements and branded fuel programs.
  • Support dealer growth initiatives and fuel supply opportunities.
  • Assist with site acquisitions, conversions, and branding projects.
  • Serve as primary contact for dealer operational issues.
  • Oversee compliance for approximately 620 fuel storage tanks.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, annual, and triannual compliance testing.
  • Coordinate environmental remediation projects and regulatory reporting.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, local, and petroleum industry regulations.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies and environmental consultants.
  • Manage fuel system installations, upgrades, replacements, and remodel projects.
  • Oversee fuel branding conversions and image programs.
  • Coordinate construction vendors, fuel equipment contractors, and regulatory approvals.
  • Support new-to-industry builds, raze-and-rebuild projects, and major site remodels.
  • Oversee fuel maintenance programs and service vendors.
  • Manage dispensers, tanks, pumps, price signs, canopies, and fuel system infrastructure.
  • Prioritize repairs and capital improvements.
  • Monitor asset performance and lifecycle planning.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts with fuel suppliers, transportation carriers, environmental vendors, maintenance contractors, construction companies, equipment manufacturers, and branding partners.
  • Develop long-term fuel growth strategies.
  • Evaluate acquisitions, conversions, and new business opportunities.
  • Analyze market conditions and emerging fuel technologies.
  • Support EV charging, alternative fuels, and future energy initiatives.
