United Ground Express (UGE) is a subsidiary of United Airlines, operating as a separate employer providing ground handling services. This role is responsible for the day-to-day operational and financial performance of an assigned station, monitoring performance against plan and initiating corrective actions to improve results. The General Manager will also be responsible for maintaining station facilities, equipment, and professional appearance standards for all UGE employees. This position requires a willingness and ability to work beyond scheduled times due to irregular operations and/or business needs. The role involves performing periodic inspections on filters, pumps, valves, tanks, pressure controls, metering and gauging equipment, and company vehicles. The General Manager is responsible for compliance with Station controls and Internal Audit standards, and for investigating causes of accidents and recommending safety measures. In addition to operational duties, the role includes people leadership, setting a positive example, maintaining a positive work environment, and providing coaching and direction to the station team. Strong working relationships with other airlines, airport authorities, vendors, unions, and governmental authorities are essential. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. The General Manager will also manage the station budget, staffing forecasts, and resource requirements, ensuring product quality meets or exceeds standards and that all work is completed in a timely manner. Monitoring local vendor performance and preparing recommendations to improve efficiency are also key aspects of the role.
