About The Position

This position performs both general maintenance and repair duties, specialized plumbing work, and drywall and paint. Responsibilities also encompass light carpentry, basic electrical, HVAC, grounds maintenance, furniture arrangement, waste/recycling management, and event setups. The role ensures customer needs are met while adhering to all University policies and procedures. Coordination with outside contractors and supervision of others may be required. This position works with minimal supervision.

Requirements

Requires general education or vocational training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and be able to operate a typical motor vehicle.
Ability to work independently or as a member of a team, depending upon project needs.
Good base knowledge of all phases of maintenance and repair and the tools and techniques utilized for various projects.
Must work and coordinate with a variety of individuals (students, staff, and specialized trade technicians) through verbal and written communication to diagnose, repair, and/or follow-up on maintenance requests and preventive maintenance projects.
Knowledge of and ability to use different hand tools and specialized equipment commonly used in repair and maintenance work.
Ability to lift 50 lbs. regularly and 75 lbs. occasionally.
Ability to lift 50 lbs. and carry 200 feet.
Ability to lift 50 lbs. and carry up/down 30 stairs.
Ability to walk regularly for long periods of time across the campus.
Ability to sit for long periods of time.
Ability to use and reach with hands and arms regularly.
Ability to climb in high places using a ladder or balance frequently.
Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend and crawl occasionally.
Ability to push or pull dolly loaded with up to 120 pounds for 300 feet occasionally.
Must have close, distance, and peripheral vision. Depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Pass PFT (pulmonary function test)

Responsibilities

Perform preventative maintenance, skilled plumbing duties, and repairs in residence halls, student center, dining facilities, apartment buildings, and other University facilities.
Perform general maintenance and repair work, including light carpentry, drywall installation and repair, painting, tile setting, equipment maintenance, and repairs to locks, hardware, cabinet doors and drawers, and interior and exterior doors.
Perform routine maintenance and repairs to furniture, appliances, and other University property.
Utilize knowledge of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and building systems to troubleshoot maintenance issues, determine the scope of repairs, and communicate repair needs effectively.
Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and other items, including employee office relocations, and perform furniture and room setups for meetings, conferences, and special events.
Maintain waste and recycling receptacles and perform general cleanup following maintenance activities, including cleaning hard-to-reach areas as needed.
Coordinate with outside contractors when assigned and ensure work is completed in accordance with University standards and safety requirements.
May supervise student workers and coordinate assigned maintenance activities as needed.
Respond to after-hours emergencies as required, serve as an essential employee during campus closures or emergency situations, and work varying shifts as operational needs dictate.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
