About The Position

Goddard Public Schools is seeking a dependable and skilled General Maintenance team member to help maintain our district facilities in top condition and ensure they are safe, functional, and ready for students and staff. The General Maintenance position is responsible for maintaining school buildings and facilities to ensure their full and productive use. This position works closely with district staff and administration and assists with a variety of maintenance, repair, installation, and facility-related tasks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • General working knowledge in electrical, HVAC, plumbing, janitorial, and carpentry is helpful.
  • Valid Kansas driver's license.
  • Ability to safely and effectively operate trucks and trailers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with members of the school district.
  • Ability to work independently, respond productively to changing circumstances, and complete assigned tasks.
  • Sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects and materials.
  • Stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching.
  • Climb and maintain balance.
  • Work indoors and outdoors year-round.
  • Work in noisy and crowded environments.
  • Work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
  • Lift a minimum of 75–100 pounds.
  • Demonstrate adequate color, depth, close-distance, and peripheral vision, as well as the ability to discriminate sounds.
  • Maintain regular attendance and physical presence on the job.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining school buildings and facilities in top condition.
  • Promote the safety, health, and comfort of students and employees in school buildings and grounds.
  • Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in maintenance and repair projects.
  • Perform maintenance, repair, and installation work involving the interior and exterior of district buildings.
  • Assist with maintaining structural elements including flooring, doors, door frames, window frames, staircases, stair treads, wall and ceiling panels, hardware, and similar components.
  • Move equipment and materials within and between school buildings.
  • Properly operate equipment and machinery as necessary.
  • Keep vehicles and equipment clean, washed, maintained, and ready for use.
  • Fill in for Building Engineers as needed.
  • Assist with snow removal from district building walkways, entrances, and parking areas.
  • Follow all district health, safety, policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Keep current with new information, innovative ideas, and maintenance techniques.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the maintenance supervisor consistent with the requirements and qualifications of the position.
