About The Position

The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for inspecting and identifying areas, equipment, or machines in need of repair. This role involves troubleshooting issues, planning repair work using blueprints or equipment manuals, and performing general repairs that do not require a specialized technician, such as drywall repair, painting, and fixing doors and building fixtures. The position also includes performing routine maintenance on building systems, cleaning and assisting with facility upkeep, ensuring prompt assistance to inmates in emergencies, and ordering necessary supplies and materials. This role performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or senior maintenance workers.
  • Knowledge of general carpentry and repair.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work after hours, over weekends and on public holidays with short or no notice.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • On-the-job training offered.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in correctional setting is highly desirable.
  • Heating/Air Conditioning experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures prompt and appropriate assistance to inmates in the event of injury, illness, and emotional trauma.
  • Orders supplies and materials needed for repairs and maintenance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
